Season five was a rockin season. I still think that Season 4 was my favorite, but this one had some moments that I just loved.
Smallville has evolved into a show with a large story arc covering a whole season that gets revealed bit by bit as the weeks go on, while also incorporating a episodic weekly story that gets wrapped up in a nice little package at the end of each episode.
It is a nice formula and it works pretty well, however, you sound like a supreme super-geek if you ever try to explain the plot points out loud.
Case in point: My wife has been watching most of the episodes with me, but she isn't quite as dedicated as I am and she will occasionally miss one here or there or start an episode late. This leads to conversations like this, where I try to catch her up:
"Ok, so Lois ran into a gypsy chick at the Talon on Valentine's day, she got some magic lipstick that is laced with Red Kryptonite that makes her fall in love with the next person she sees. She puts it on, sees Clark, and hilarity insues. Later on, she kisses him, he gets infected with Red Kryptonite, and goes to crash Lana's engagement party with Lex. Clark makes a big scene, Jimmy saves the day by spraying Green Kryptonite perfume on Lois, snapping her out of the lipstick haze. Oh right...and Lana is preggers."
This makes perfect sense if you are watching the show. But when I actually say this out loud, I feel like a complete and total comic book fanboi. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, you will never, in a million years, say crap like this to a girl and get laid directly afterward. Just isn't going to happen in this lifetime.
Anyway, I really liked Season 5...and I really love the show. The best show of the Season, by far, (and maybe the series), was the "Reckoning" episode. Clark had to make some tough decisions and deal with a huge loss. All the drama you could ever wish for from Smallville.
I'm more than halfway through Season 6 right now, and I'm pretty sure Shana is tired of seeing Smallville on the TV set right now (TOO BAD!!! :P) . I think I'm going to have to finish Season 6 up and then leave Season 7 on the shelf for a little while. Unless the Season finale is a cliffhanger. Ok, maybe I'll watch one episode of Season 7. Or two. Or ten.
God I'm addicted.

And you can now add "putting the synopsis in print" to the list of what will make you sound insane.
But yeah, I'm pretty tired of Smallville sucking up my TV time.
