There is no such thing as 110%

I'm sure that we have all heard the expression 'I'm giving it 110 percent'.

This expression frustrates me.

There is no such thing as 110 percent. 100 percent is all there is. Anybody who asks for 110%, asks for the impossible and anybody who says they are giving 110% is lying to you.

If you give me 100%, but you still have 10 percent more to give, then you were only giving me 90 percent. Because 100% is everything. EVERYTHING. 110 percent is a fallacy!!!

I have a particularly frustrating person in my life who keeps repeating 110% over and over and over again, and I really want to slap this person and it is taking 100% of my self control not to do it. Okay...maybe 87.4% of my self control. There is a 34% chance I'm going to kick a puppy instead. But if I do it will only be with 4% effort.

Some people seem to think adding percentages to everything makes you sound smarter. I don't think it works like that. But that is probably for another another blog post.
